⚡️ Powering the Future: The Electric Challenge in the Philippines! ⚡️
The race to electrify Philippine roads is on, but it’s not without its hurdles. As EVs gain traction globally, we’re facing our unique challenge here at home: building a robust and accessible charging infrastructure. The Department of Energy aims high, targeting 7,000 charging stations by 2028. But where are we now, and what’s needed to hit that goal?
As of early 2025, our journey is just beginning with 912 public charging stations, mainly in the capital. Meanwhile, private initiatives are thriving, with Ayala Corporation’s ACMobility setting the pace. By the first quarter of 2025, they will operate 74 stations in Makati alone, featuring 19 DC fast chargers!
To drive EV adoption, ACMobility is rolling out membership programs offering 20% savings—a smart move to encourage users to plug into cleaner transport. Yet challenges loom large. Our charging network isn’t expanding fast enough to meet demand, especially in rural areas along highways.
To overcome these hurdles, collaboration and stronger regulation are key. The EV Industry Development Act (Evida) is a promising start, but we’re calling for even more support and public awareness to dispel myths and ease the transition to electric vehicles.
