A CHAdeMO connector cannot be directly used with a Type 2 charging station because they are physically incompatible. CHAdeMO is a DC fast-charging standard used primarily in Japan and some parts of Europe, while Type 2 is an AC charging standard common in Europe and other regions. The physical design of the connectors, including pin configurations and housing shapes, prevents direct plug-and-play use between the two.
Power Delivery Implications
When attempting to use CHAdeMO with a Type 2 station, the mismatch in connector types means that power delivery cannot occur. CHAdeMO supports high-voltage DC charging, whereas Type 2 is designed for AC charging. Even if an adapter were to exist, it would not enable the necessary voltage conversion or communication protocols required for safe and efficient charging. This incompatibility also affects the ability to negotiate charging parameters such as current limits and energy flow control.
OCPP 2.0.1 Communication Considerations
OCPP 2.0.1 communication relies on standardized protocols that are specific to each charging station’s hardware and connector type. Since CHAdeMO and Type 2 are not interoperable at the physical level, the communication between the charger and the central system would fail. This impacts offline operation capabilities, especially in scenarios where local control or energy optimization is needed without cloud dependency. For systems using Saha-Edge or similar edge computing platforms, this mismatch could prevent proper local decision-making and integration with on-site energy systems.
